Minimum 2022 California Building Code Chapter 11B Accessibility Requirements for Special Events
1. 11B-108 Maintenance of Accessible Features:
Features, facilities and equipment required to be accessible to and useable by persons with disabilities shall be maintained in operable working condition. Isolated or temporary interruptions in service or accessibility due to maintenance or repairs shall be permitted.
2. If additional toilet facilities are provided (i.e., portable toilets), additional (20% plus one) are required to be accessible toilets.
3. Wheelchair seating spaces with companion seating are required in assembly areas.
Wheelchair Seating Space Capacity:
1 – 50: 2
51 – 300: 4
301 – 500: 6
over 500: Add 1 per 100
4. Individual wheelchair seating spaces minimum 30" wide and 60" in length.
5. If providing additional parking spaces,the number of accessible parking spaces are required to
be increased per Chapter 11B.
6. For outdoor events, an adequate number of shaded accessible seating areas are required.
7. Exhibits, stages, elevated seating, and their path(s) of travel are required to be accessible.
8. Equivalent Facilitation. The use of designs, products or technologies as alternatives to those prescribed, resulting in substantially equivalent or greater accessibility and usability.
Note: In determining equivalent facilitation, consideration shall be given to means that provide for the maximum independence of persons with disabilities while presenting the least risk of harm, injury or other hazard to such persons or others.
