General Supplemental Information For An Application Of An Onsite Wastewater System Permit

License Requirement: Installation of a septic system requires either an A, C-42 or C-36 contractor’s license except that a B license is allowed to install a septic system in conjunction with a new construction project as appropriate under State Contractor’s law.

Plot Plan: Submit plot plan (1 inch = 40 feet or larger) showing property lines, location of proposed system and all appropriate horizontal set backs, from table “A” below.

Miscellaneous requirements:

  • Installation of a leach field either in or within 50 feet of 30% or greater slopes requires prior review and approval by both County Health and State Regional Water Quality Control Board.
  • Septic systems must be located on same parcel as buildings served by system and cannot be located in or extend into easements.
  • Multiple leach fields require a minimum separation distance of 8 feet or twice the effective depth whichever is greater.
  • Drain rock must be clean washed 1&1/2 to 2&1/2 inch in diameter. Also, clean ¾ inch rock, uniform in size is allowed.
  • A 2-way clean out extending to grade is required two feet from the septic tank inlet. An approved effluent filter must be installed in the tank outlet.
