Description:

The Housing Element is required by state law as included in the
County of Monterey General Plan and in accordance with the current
6th Cycle Update to plan adequate housing for everyone in the
unincorporated Countywide community. The process for updating the
Housing Element requires review and approval by California Housing
and Community Development (CA HCD) to determine compliance with
state housing law. CA HCD must approve the 6th Cycle Housing
Element prior to adoption by the County of Monterey. Visit our

Current Status:

The Draft Sixth Cycle Housing Element has been submitted to the State of California Housing and Community Development Department (STATE HCD) for its first 90-day review on August 19, 2024. During this review period, public input can continue to be submitted to GeneralPlanUpdates@Countyofmonterey.gov .
Once the County receives formal review feedback from State HCD, a revised draft will be posted on for public review on this website and an email will be sent to all individuals and organizations that requested to be added to the public distribution list.
