Do your part to end food insecurity

Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects individuals and families at the community, state, and national levels. It is crucial for everyone to do their part in addressing this problem and ensuring that all individuals have access to nutritious food. There are various ways in which individuals can contribute to ending food insecurity.

At the community level, one can donate or volunteer at local organizations. For example organizations like food banks or host food drives. You can also help raise awareness about programs such as CalFresh, WIC, school lunch programs, and Monterey County 211. By supporting these initiatives, we can help provide food assistance to those in need .

In terms of state involvement, it is important to elect officials who prioritize hunger issues and to support policies that address food insecurity, such as minimum wage legislation. By advocating for state policies that promote access to healthy and affordable food, individuals can help reduce food insecurity on a larger scale.

Your community:

  • Donate or volunteer at your local food bank or host your own food drive.
  • Post food bank distribution calendars at your workplace, place of worship, or community event.
  • Raise awareness about CalFresh; Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, school lunch programs, and Monterey County 211.

Your state:

  • Elect officials who care about hunger issues.
  • Support state policy that influences food insecurity such as minimum wage legislation.

Your country:

  • Support non-profit organizations and many others that address food insecurity.
  • Support issues that influence food insecurity: poverty, access to healthy food, minimum wage, housing, access to healthcare, and transportation.
