MADDY FUND

The Maddy Fund was established as a means of providing critical resources for the delivery of emergency medical care to the uninsured. The funds are managed at the county level, with funding generated through the assessment of an additional penalty of $2 for every $10 collected in fines, penalties and forfeitures for criminal offenses. Emergency room physicians who treat uninsured patients who are unable to pay for their care can submit a claim to their county Maddy Fund for partial reimbursement.

CSA 74 FUNDS

County Service Area 74 (CSA 74) was established by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors in May 1989. On March 7, 2000, Monterey County voters approved replacing the CSA 74 “benefit assessment” on real property with a “special tax” of the same amount in compliance with Proposition 218.

The special tax is solely for the purpose of raising revenue for the provision of emergency medical, ambulance, paramedic, and related services by the Monterey County Emergency Medical Services System.
