Seven Principles of Leave No Trace

  1. Plan ahead and prepare
    Take a map. Know the regulations. Prepare for hazards, weather, and emergencies and prepare your gear accordingly.
  2. Travel and camp of durable surfaces
    Protect untrammeled areas by camping at established spaces and keep on the trails.
  3. Dispose of waste properly
    Pack it in, pack it out. Use Ziplocks or plastic bags to stash all your waste. Double check your camp, don’t leave anything behind. Bury human waste 6 to 8 inches deep and at least 200 feet from water, camp, and trails. Pack out toilet paper. Wash yourself, dishes 200 feet away from water.
  4. Leave what you find
    Observe. Take photos. Admire. Leave cultural, historical, and natural resources where they are found.
  5. Minimize campfire impacts
    Be fire aware. Know fire regulations. Have a fire, make it small. Use establish campfire rings where possible. Put fires out completely. Always, always be fire aware.
  6. Respect wildlife
    Observe. Take photos. Admire. Do not feed, follow, or approach wild animals. Protect your food. Control pets.
  7. Be considerate of other visitors
    Protect the quality of your experience and the experience of others- be courteous, yield to others, camp away from trails and other people, avoid loud sounds.
