Published on January 30, 2017. Last modified on July 15, 2024
The 2022 Monterey County Community Health Need Assessment (CHNA) also sometimes referred to as Community Health Assessment (CHA) consists of both primary and secondary data including county level data, census data, vital statistics, online key informant surveys, customized local health surveys and other health related data. Data for many indicators are presented geographically and by sociodemographics when available.
After months of data collection and tremendous input from the community, the Monterey County Health Needs Collaborative has released a comprehensive report on the health needs in Monterey County. We want to acknowledge and express appreciation to the more than 3,100 individuals who anonymously shared their personal health information and opinions regarding their health status and opportunities for improving population health in our community.

We believe that sharing these data can act as a catalyst to strengthen and enhance our local health care system, and doing so provide a number of opportunities that align with Monterey County Health Department’s strategic initiatives:
- Empower the community to improve health through programs, policies and activities
- Enhance community health and safety by emphasizing prevention
- Ensure access to culturally and linguistically appropriate, customer-centered quality services.
- Engage Health Department workforce and improve operational functions to meet current and developing population health needs
Health is a true state of well-being that incorporates physical, mental, spiritual, social, economic, and community wellness and opportunity. As a networked system of health, we partners must effectively collaborate in our efforts and resources. The data held in this 2022 Community Health Assessment should be widely discussed, prioritized, and collectively applied to encourage safer and healthier homes, neighborhoods, and communities.
