In an ongoing effort to assist property owners with the rebuilding of structures destroyed or damaged as a result of the 2016 Soberanes and Chimney Fires, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors has voted to extend the Soberanes/Chimney Fire Recovery Guidelines to support the processing of permits.

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, other wildfires in the area, material shortages and circumstances unique to the fire affected properties, along with other unforeseen circumstances, many property owners have not had the opportunity to rebuild.

To further the redevelopment of these properties, it is necessary to extend the guidelines.

The Guidelines (Resolution 16-047, adopted August 23, 2016), have been beneficial in assisting property owners with rebuilding, and were set to expire on August 31, 2021, however, pursuant to Resolution 16-224, the timeline to apply for these permits has been extended to Five (5) years, not to exceed August 31, 2026.
