Update on Conditions at the Salinas River Lagoon: Storm surge from high tides and large surf that overtopped the sandbar in late December caused the water level in the Salinas Lagoon to rise rapidly, resulting in flooding of agricultural fields and encroachment into residential areas. Initial attempts to manage this floodwater have proven ineffective, in response the Water Resourced Agency conducted a facilitated sandbar breach on the morning of January 4, 2024 to alleviate flooding. This work was completed under a Proclamation of Local Emergency by County Administrative Officer and in compliance with existing permits held by the Water Resources Agency. Current water level information for the Salinas River Lagoon can be viewed through our Real-Time Water Data Network https://mcwrarealtimehydrodata.com.
