Seawater Intrusion Monitoring
Overview
Reports of seawater intrusion into the Salinas Basin (Basin) began as early as 1946 when the then named State Department of Public Works (now Department of Water Resources) published Bulletin 52. Since the original study of seawater intrusion in the Basin, numerous other studies to evaluate the extent, causes, impacts, and possible mitigation have been conducted. Today, Monterey County Water Resources Agency monitors the movement and extent of seawater intrusion by testing a series of wells located in the coastal northwestern portion of Monterey County.
