California restricted materials are pesticides deemed to have a higher potential to cause harm to public health, farm workers, domestic animals, honeybees, the environment, wildlife, or other crops compared to other pesticides. With certain exceptions, restricted materials may be purchased and used only by or under the supervision of a certified commercial or private applicator under a permit issued by the County Agricultural Commissioner (CAC).
The purpose of restricted material permits is to allow our office to evaluate, in advance, the potential effects of the proposed application to the treatment site and surrounding properties and to require site-specific use practices be followed (beyond the label and applicable regulations) to mitigate potentially adverse effects. The CAC may deny permits or require feasible alternatives to be used.
Restricted Material Permits are only issued to the operator of the property or his or her authorized representative. For you to obtain a restricted material permit from our office, you must provide us with the following:
- A completed restricted material permit application
- A copy of your private or commercial applicator certification
- A signed owner authorization letter (if applicable)
- Maps for each location on the permit, which must include:
- company/organization name
- ranch name and ranch number
- year
- block ID numbers and acreage/square footage
