How we handle complaints

Thank you for contacting the Monterey County Environmental Health Department. Please be aware that while we will always take your complaint, we cannot always resolve it if it is out of our jurisdiction. If it is out of our jurisdiction, will refer you to the proper authority to handle the situation.


Things to keep in mind:
All complaints are confidential
We cannot get in the middle of a dispute
We cannot give legal advice

What we can do:
-Will work with tenant
-Tenant must be legal occupant and cannot be in the process of leaving or being evicted.
-Contact owner
-Send certified letter, 10 business days to respond, if inspector has to be sent out then fees will be incurred.
