This one-day course is designed to enhance clinical decision-making and assessment through the utilization of a systematic method of 12-lead EKG analysis. Cardiac physiology as it relates to the 12-lead EKG is reviewed. Application and analysis of the EKG will be practiced to develop pattern recognition.

At the conclusion of this course the active participant shall demonstrate through oral, practical and written evaluation:

• Describe the derivation of the standard 12 ECG leads, including electrode placement, polarity and views of the heart.
• Critically analyze PQRST complexes for abnormalities
• Recognize and describe the management of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)
• Recognize and describe the management of Non ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI)
• Describe ECG features of: ischemia, injury, infarction, bundle branch blocks, hemiblocks, pericarditis, and electrolyte and drug effects.
• Interpret five 12-lead ECGs. Identify conditions that can mimic or conceal STEMI

This course is approved for 8 hours of continuing education by an approved California EMS CE provider and is instructor based.
