You and yours are invited to the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library First Saturday event on Saturday, May 4 at 10:15 AM – The Cultural Practices of Tending Trees in Big Sur! Have you ever wondered, as you hike our beautiful coastal region, about the unusual shapes and arrangements of many of the ancient oaks and redwoods along your path? Join us as Dr. Lee Klinger shares how the Esselen Peoples’ use of fire and fire mimicry secured food, ceremonial spaces, and clearings of fertile soil and mindfully tended flora among the now fire-threatened local forests. Parking and seating are limited, so carpooling and arriving early is encouraged.  For more information, please call the Carmel Valley Branch Library at 831.647.7760 or email the branch at 611-CVCIRC@co.monterey.ca.us.  See you there!
