- September is Library Card sign-up month! If you have a library card, GREAT! Visit your local branch and use it. We love our patrons. If you don’t have a library card or your neighbor, child or friend doesn’t have one, visit your library to get one. Many branches will have incentives for new library card signers this month. Visit your local branch to see what they’ve got. Libraries offer so much, from books to toys to programs to computer access.
- September is also National Literacy Month. Celebrate your ability to read. It’s an essential life skill and it will open doors to opportunities. MCFL has an active Adult Literacy Program which provides one on one tutoring for people who want to learn to read. It also assists people learning English as a second (or third) language.
- For literary lovers we have a Book Club 2 Go program or BC2G. Each BC2G bag has 10 books for your book club and a list of questions to stimulate conversation for your group discussion. This video is a great introduction to the BC2G program. We purchase new title for book club kits regularly!
- MCFL recently launched our Mental Wellness Kits for children and teens. Each kit highlights a topic with books, activities, and comfort objects to help children and teens address issues they may be facing. We have a series of videos about our Mental Wellness Kits that you can view to learn more. These kits launched in time for Suicide Prevention Week which is recognized from September 10 through 16. MCFL also created a booklist with titles to address suicide prevention. You can ask for it at your local branch. In addition, this month’s grab & go activity bag has a focus on mindfulness to help children learn skills to protect their mental wellness.
- Starting September 15, we celebrate Latino Heritage Month and lift up the voices of authors of Latino heritage by highlighting their works on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Look on our social media each Tuesday in September to discover the featured author.
- MCFL’s online resource of the month is A to Z the USA. This resource is full of interesting facts about all 50 states in the USA. It includes information on state histories, economies photos, state emblems and much more.Access to A to Z the USA is free with your library card or in any MCFL branch library.
