Call for Community Organizations to participate in the County Climate Action Plan.
The County of Monterey is seeking to bring together a diverse set of Community Based Organizations from within its boundaries to give input to the Climate Action Plan through an Equity Panel.
The County is offering stipends of up to $1000 per organization to cover staff time and/or community-based outreach and events. To apply click here.
The Equity Panel Objectives are listed below:
- Share the needs of underserved communities in the face of climate change and disasters.
- Provide an opportunity for the County to develop an equity lens and equity considerations for decision-making processes relevant for the Climate Action Plan and the Hazard Mitigation Plan.
- Collaboratively develop a set of recommendations for the Climate Action Plan’s strategies.
- Share scientific data and policies relevant for the Climate Action Plan with leaders of underserved community.
- Foster future partnerships pertinent to climate change, adaptation and community resilience with the County and among Panel members.
- Build overall community capacity to address and prepare for climate change.
Commitments of the Equity Panel are to attend 2-3 meetings throughout the development of the Climate Action Plan and be available for 3-4 one-on one calls with County and consultant staff over the next 2 years. We are also interested in organizations that are interested in carrying the message of the Climate Action Plan to their communities and forming long-term partnerships to address and prepare for climate change.
