Royal Oaks Park

Located in North Monterey County, Royal Oaks Park was established in 1966. It is the oldest park in the Monterey County Parks system. This 122-acre day-use facility is situated in a small valley studded with Coast Live Oaks.

Royal Oaks’ country setting makes it an ideal place for family outings. Royal Oaks Park has much to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Park facilities include a softball field, playground equipment, horseshoe pit, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, plus miles of hiking trails. A youth overnight area is available for organized groups.

Picnic Areas

Family Picnic Sites
Royal Oaks has individual picnic sites free for general public use. Each picnic site has a table and grill, and is conveniently located near restrooms and lawn activity areas.

Mini Picnic Areas
For smaller gatherings, Royal Oaks has 2 mini-group areas that may be reserved. Both accommodate up to 48 people. There is no water or electricity but restrooms and parking are nearby. Alcohol, generators, bounce houses, nacho or cotton candy machines are not permitted in the areas.

Group Picnic Areas
Royal Oaks Park has four group picnic areas that can accommodate groups ranging from 50 to 280 people. A barbecue pit, tables, water and electricity are provided. Each area can accommodate a bounce house, however generators are prohibited. Consumption of alcohol is only permitted in the Live Oak picnic area with the appropriate alcohol permit and liability insurance. The Live Oak group area is also available for weddings.

Bounce Houses
There is now a permit fee for bounce houses, please see the fee schedule below.

Inflatable structures, including but not limited to, bounce houses, jump houses, arches are allowed on a reservable site only. Inflatable structures are not allowed on first come, first served sites. Only one (1) inflatable structure is allowed per reserved area. Inflatable structure may not exceed fifteen feet by fifteen feet (15 ft x 15 ft) in size. Park user shall supply all necessary power sources for the inflatable structure. Only "whisper" generators are permitted. All generators must meet the County's Park sound level limits of County Ordinance No. 2753. Noise levels shall not exceed 50 dBa at 50 feet utilizing an "A" weighted network. Adult supervision for the inflatable structure is required at all times.

Monterey County offers a Youth Overnight Area (YONA) in Royal Oaks Park for reservations. This site includes BBQ’s, tables, water, and restrooms. Maximum occupancy is 100 people.

Youth Overnight Area (YONA) Maximum Capacity: 100 people

The Youth Overnight Area (YONA), a perfect outdoor location for youth groups to experience overnight camping, and is available by reservation only. YONA is in a secluded area of the park, away from the public picnic areas. The camp area rests on an attractive, oak-shaded knoll surrounded by hiking trails.

Parking is limited. Buses are not allowed to access the YONA parking lot due to limited parking and turnaround ability.

Alcohol is not permitted.

This site does not have electrical outlets.
