Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Pilot Program
About Our Program
HRAS understands that there is a need for more spay/neuter options for feral cats within both Monterey County and the City of Salinas. Until further notice, we are offering a limited amount of feral cat spay/neuter appointments each Wednesday for this program for individual members of our community. If you'd like to help us keep it going and make a donation, contact us at animalservices@co.monterey.ca.us.
What is a feral cat? A feral cat is a domestic cat that has been unsocialized and is not able to be handled. These cats live outdoors and act wild and are often hard to catch without the use of a humane cat trap.
This pilot program is for feral cats only and not for friendly, tame house cats that we have as pets. Feral cats using this program must be at least 4 (four) months old.
For this program, feral cats will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, provided with flea treatment and ear tipped. Our shelter veterinarian reserves the right to decline a cat for surgery if it is deemed unhealthy, too young or too old or otherwise unable to go through the surgery. The caretaker would be contacted and asked to pick up the cat for further care at a private, full service veterinarian.
