Services

Animal Services provides the following core services to the unincorporated areas of the County of Monterey and the City of Salinas. Contracting cities of Greenfield, Carmel, CSUMB and Marina have their own field services but bring animals that need sheltering to the shelter on Hitchcock Road in Salinas.

Field Services

Animal Control Officers (ACOs) provide field services that include: animal bite investigation/quarantine, animal related nuisance complaints, injured/aggressive animal pick up, stray/loose dog pick up and other related state and local animal law enforcement.

Animal Sheltering

Animals that need sheltering are brought to Animal Services at 160 Hitchcock Road in Salinas.  They are scanned for a microchip, vaccinated, photographed and held for a minimum of 3 business days in hopes their owner comes for them.

Licensing

Mandatory for dogs and voluntary for cats over 4 months of age. Licensing is available online, by mail or in-person.
