View the animals FOUND by citizens & reported to HRAS & being kept in Citizen's homes.  (These animals are NOT at the shelter)

The shelter will hold onto an animal for a minimum of 3 days in order to give an owner the opportunity to look for his/her lost pet. The hold is extended if (1) an animal has a microchip or  is wearing a license tag, a rabies tag, and/or a personalized tag and (2) we receive information that the owner has been incarcerated or hospitalized. Once the holding period has ended, an animal may be placed for adoption, transferred to another shelter or to a rescue group, or be placed in the shelter's foster care system. An animal may be euthanized immediately if the animal is suffering from a serious medical condition or injury and/or is not responding to treatment. Also, if an animal does not pass the behavior evaluation, the animal may be euthanized.

Please complete every field and attach a photo if you have one (landscape orientation please).  Your online report will be sent electronically to our shelter and we will enter the information into our records so that we may contact you if we are able to locate your missing pets.  Your pet will also be listed on our online missing pet listing in the event someone finds it.  No personal contact information will be listed.

You can file a FOUND PET REPORT by clicking on the picture below.  Please complete this form to report an animal(s) that you have found and intend to hold onto at your home.  At the end of the report, you will be given the option to upload a photo.  Make sure you take the photo in LANDSCAPE (nor portrait) mode and to include the full body of the animal in adequate lighting.  Your online report will be sent electronically to our shelter and we will enter the information into our records so that we may contact you if we find a potential owner. This found pet will be posted on our website.  No personal contact information will be posted.

The app is free to register on your iPhone, Android devices, and on the Web. When your pet is lost, you can report your lost pet in the app and Petco Love Lost can alert a network of partners, such as pet organizations, nearby members, and social media outlets. And if you see a lost pet, you can report it by snapping a photo of the pet and uploading it into the app. The app is able to do a facial recognition search in its database.  All the local shelters in Monterey County are Petco Love Lost partners so register your pets now!

IMPORTANT!  Please call us first and make an appointment if you need to drop off a stray animal. Do NOT come to the shelter without an appointment. Because staffing is extremely limited, an appointment ensures that staff is onsite and available to assist you.

If you find a healthy cat or kitten(s), research shows that putting it back to where you found it is the best thing to do. An adult cat or older kitten is likely someone's pet and being taken care of, and kittens almost always have a mother that is just off getting something to eat. Taking kittens from their mother drastically decrease their chance of survival. So please leave them be or take them back to where you found them.  If you find a cat that is sick, injured or abandoned, then we are here! Check out our hours to stray drop off times.

If you find a healthy dog, please consider helping us save lives by temporarily housing the dog and attempting to find the owner or finding someone through your social network who can.  If you aren't able to hold it or the owner isn't located,  then Animal Services is here!  Check out our hours to stray drop off times.
