Acceptable Use
By connecting to this service, all users consent to use the Library’s Wi-Fi connection in a legal and responsible manner, governed by the MCFL Internet and Computer Use Policy. Users must not violate federal, California or local laws, including the transmission or receiving of child pornography or harmful material, fraud, or illegally downloading copyrighted material.
Use By Minors
Any restriction or monitoring of a minor’s access to the library’s wireless network is the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian. The library’s wireless access to the Internet is unfiltered.
WI-FI Connections Are Not Secure
As with most public Wi-Fi services, the library’s wireless connection is not secure. Any information sent or received can potentially be intercepted. Cautious and informed Wi-Fi users should not transmit their credit card information, passwords and any other sensitive personal information while using the Library Wi-Fi connection.
Printing Limitations
Printing directly from Wi-Fi is currently available at the library. If you wish to learn more about this service, please see Access to Wireless Printing. Users also have the option to print at the library by saving their work to a portable storage device (e.g. USB drive) or email relevant files to themselves and sign up to use a library computer to open the file and send it to a public library printer. for A small fee is charged to print from library computers and for wireless printing.
Computers
Each branch library has desk top computers for patron use. Public access computers are available during normal Library open hours. Workstations and printers turn off 15 minutes before closing. Public access computer users must have an MCFL card in good standing. There are no fees for the first Library card and no fees to use the computers, except for printing. Public access computer workstations are available for one hour per day per person. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of Library staff based on availability and fair access. The Library maintains the right to reserve computers for special programs.
MCFL offers filtered access to the Internet by default. Patrons age 17 and older may request the removal of filters on a per-session basis for legitimate research purposes. For more information, please read our Computer Use Agreement.
Disclaimer
The library will not be responsible for any personal information (e.g. credit card) that is compromised, or for any damage caused to hardware or software due to electric surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. All Wi-Fi users should have up-to-date virus protection on their wireless devices.
