In November 2013, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office welcomed Odile, also known as “Odie” to its Victim Witness Unit. Canine Companions for Independence a non-profit assistance canine organization donated Odie, a Labrador/Retriever mix to serve as a comfort dog in a new and innovative service.

In August 2018, we welcomed a second comfort dog, Namaste to our Victim Witness Unit.  Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit assistance canine organization, donated Namaste, a Labrador Retriever to serve as a comfort dog.

Together Odie and Namaste provide a unique kind of support, peace and security to victims and witnesses involved in the criminal justice system.  Their presence benefits victims, witnesses, lawyers, judges, law enforcement officers and anyone who is in need of their calming influence.
