The Monterey County District Attorney's Consumer and Environmental Protection Division investigates and prosecutes cases involving fraudulent, deceptive and illegal business activity that victimizes Monterey County residents and law abiding businesses, threatens public safety, or endangers our local environment and natural resources. This unit handles both criminal filings and civil action enforcement. Examples of complaints reviewed and/or investigated by this unit involve fraud and schemes in the areas of: telemarketing, mail solicitation, charity fraud, false sweepstakes, retail false advertising, pyramid schemes, real estate and investment transactions, drug/healthcare claims, warranties, insurance packing, Internet auctions/purchases, and schemes targeting senior citizens or immigrant communities, hazardous material spills, inadequate spill prevention plans and wide range of County Code violations.

Our attorneys are part of a statewide network of consumer and environmental prosecutors throughout California
and are referral sources for issues or complaints which may be handled in other jurisdictions.

All services are free.
