Prop 47
On November 4, 2014, California voters approved Proposition 47, which made some non-violent property crimes into misdemeanors. Under Prop 47, you may qualify for a reduction from a felony to a misdemeanor for certain non-serious and non-violent drug and property crimes with assistance from the Monterey County Public Defenders Office. The state savings from the reduced incarceration rates are being used to fund grants.
Money from the grants is being used in Monterey to help candidates get back on track. Getting people back on track includes offering cost-free services through community partnerships. From drug treatment to reclassification, to legal services, our partners our experts in helping people improve the quality of their lives.
